Driving along 44 towards downtown I noticed a large patch of bright yellow in the grass next to the highway. The colorful patch turned out to be a cluster of daffodils planted in the shape of the number 25. Next to the 5, the flowers formed a large circle and even more daffodils formed eyes and an upturned mouth inside the circle. I wonder what that's all about.

I think it commemorates the 25th anniversary of planting dafodils along the highways in the City of St. Louis. I believe it was started and continued by Operation Brightside -- a Schoemehl administration construct that I hope continues to keep our city beautiful for years to come.

There is a similar smiley face on the side of hiway 40 at about forest park parkway - I wondered about it as well - thanks for the info Dustin!
