A city cop was killed in North St. Louis last night, just another night in the city. People who wear body armor are killed in this city and there seems to be no sense of outrage. People deal drugs, sell guns, rape women, destroy property at a very high rate in this city and there never seems to be any kind of response to it.
There are the sounds bites from higher ups, but rarely do we hear of progress. There are sound bites from outraged citizens when a cop shoots a criminal, but they all fall silent when a cop is shot...why is that? That's a rhetorical question, by the way. When will we as citizens of a crime ridden city rise up and say "enough"? We're a city built on a foundation of sound bites, reports and good intentions.
City boosters want the world to believe St. Louis is safe, and it is to an extent, but it's also extremely dangerous in many areas. Innocent people die on our streets almost
daily. It happened again last night, and it will happen again within the next few days...and that's something most of us have just come to accept.
I don't get this world where killing someone is acceptable. I don't understand why guns and bullets and all the other minutia needs to exist in this day and age. I don't know why violence and murder is not only acceptable but promoted, glorified and held as something virtuous.
To all those who cared for and about 22-year-old St. Louis police officer Norvell Brown and everyone else who has been or will be murdered on the streets of St. Louis for no reason at all, I wish you comfort and peace. Both of which, unfortunately, will be hard to find...but I'll try and offer it anyway.
