Lists 9.21.2007 | 4 Comment(s)
I had to create this list. It seems like bad news and negativity are surrounding me and the City, and I've been contributing to some of that. So, in the interest of positive energy, Karma, and just getting back to why I started this blog in the first place, I present a list of things I love about the City.

  1. My house.

  2. My neighborhood.

  3. Alleys.

  4. Dumpsters! I'd never remember to put out my trash. And the Yard Waste dumpsters? Icing on the cake!

  5. I can recycle for free.

  6. The logical city street grid. I never get lost in the City.

  7. Tower Grove Park. It's been too long since we've seen each other.

  8. Carondelet Park. So tranquil.

  9. Downtown. It's not Clayton, thank God! I'll take a little dirt, grim, architecture & history over a bunch of $30,000 a year millionaires any day.

  10. Brick buildings.

  11. Art glass.

  12. Detached, back yard garages. I don't want the front of my house looking like one big metal door!

  13. The Chemical Building.

  14. The teardrop shape of our city.

  15. The Arch. I see it everyday, but not once have I failed to look at it and failed to appreciate its simple lines.

  16. St. Louis street names. We have some great ones...perfect to name your dog after!

  17. The Botanical Garden (and my proximity to it!). Really nothing more needs to be said, right?

  18. Our potential. This one may be weird, but where there is unrealized potential, there's the chance that something great will happen.

  19. South Grand.

  20. The view when you're headed north on Gravois.

  21. That we're not Chicago or NYC (not that we couldn't learn a thing or 2 from those places).

  22. The city's infinite inspiration for photographers.

Hey, love the blog and the City. I'm starting a new job in Clayton and was just wondering what is "a bunch of $30,000 a year millionaires"? I need to know what to look out for. Actually I'm really happy about the location my job before was in Westport, it's a nice place to visit but way too far of a drive everyday. Maybe someday I'll make in into the city limits.

Perhaps it was the industry I was in, but I felt the Clayton scene was all about being something you're not. Could be said about lots of places, it just seemed more concentrated there

Great list!!! I'm taking it upon myself to visit the Tower Grove Farmers Market each saturday so that I spend a little time there. Today I ran into a friend and we sat and talked as parents played with their kids in the fountain.

I feel ya on the clayton vibes -- grimace-worthy scene, to say the least. Your lovely list just reminded me why I read your blog. Keep it up! (and the design/layout is rockin')
